
Lono was the god of agriculture. Associated with fertility, rainfall, and music. Lono was also the god of peace. "In his honor, the great annual festival of the Makahiki was held. During this period (from October through February), war and unnecessary work was kapu." It was a jolly festival to compete in strength and strategy. Another connection to Lono, or his different forms, was Captain Cook who was killed because the Hawaiian's thought he was Lono returning to Hawaii.
